幕末の日比谷公園は長州藩毛利家、佐賀藩鍋島家、盛岡藩南部家と、外様の国持大名の上屋敷が 3 つもありました。また、心字池の西側には吉宗が連れてきた御庭番が住まう桜田御用屋敷もありました。維新後に更地を経て日比谷練兵場に転用されてしまったので、今はその面影は全くありませんが。

喧騒なオフィス街にあって、木々の緑が眩しい都会のオアシスです。政治集会や集客イベントなど今も昔も話題に事欠かない歴史的な舞台でもあります。昨今は皇居ランナーや通勤チャリダー向けのランニングステーションが公園地下に新設され、時代にマッチした公園に生まれ変わりつつあります。

Right opposite the Imperial Hotel. It is a beautiful park perfect for an evening stroll. We managed to go to the Christmas Market which was mostly a market for European food and drinks.
