Once known throughout the land, and founded by St. Gilbert c.1139 as a home to his Gilbertian Order, the only purely English monastic order. Now sits lonely in the middle of a field.

Princess Gwenllian, daughter of the last true-born Prince of Wales, was held captive in the nearby Gilbertian abbey for over 50 years. Her death in 1337 ended the lineage of the Welsh Royal family.
