Great place for a picnic. Plenty of deck chairs on the castle battlements overlooking the sea and beach. Free parking for English heritage members. Good ice cream locally made. Nice sea breeze too.

Walmer is the larger of the 2 castles near Deal. It's got a fabulous garden and interesting rooms to wander around. Very good if you're interested in the history of Lord Nelson
