Fort Jay is currently closed to the public. Look up to see the eagle.

Be sure to find the magazine - ammunition storage on the Manhattan side of the fort. Very cool space.

Highlights are relaxing on rocking chairs, and exploring the old bunkers.

Inside the fort is a central courtyard. Grab one of the rocking chairs on the porch. If you doze off a little in one on a sunny afternoon, it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

Designed by Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Williams and built in 1806. The star-shaped walls of the fort were inspired by those built by the French military. It was designated a City landmark in 1967.

Did you know that Fort Jay is located on the site of a revolutionary war fort built by General Israel Putnum?
