Formerly home to Leland Stanford, founder of Stanford University and a US Senator, it became a National Historic Landmark in 1987. A railroad tycoon, Stanford bought his home for just $8,000 in 1861.

Open on Mondays, but if State resumes "furlough Fridays", most State parks will likely close on Mondays again.
